QUOTES

East 17

Tony Mortimer
* If you love something, let it go and if it comes back to you, it was meant to be yours. If it doesn't it never was.

* Do not get involved in materialism, for an ism is a boundary and boundaries are limits and limits can not be attached 2 spirits, 4 spirits are free.

* If U want 2 C the view from the mountain top, first U have 2 climb the mountain. Faith is the ladder

* Love is the invisible force which bonds the whole world together.

* My body is a temple, so I always leave my shoes on the outside.

* I only live so I can give 2 U in the morning, rise so I can C your eyes. I can't explain about the way I feel, all I can say is that it feels so real.

* I'm a nice person to have as a boyfriend, because I'm fun, rich and I've got a big willy!

* I'm not here to live up to your expectations, as you are not here to live up to mine.

* I'm really feminine. You have to be to write songs. Sometimes I catch my hands doing wonderful things and I think 'Oh God! Very feminine', but it doesn't bother me.

* If I'm famous in Israel, I'm famous in Heaven. God knows everything about Israel. He sent his son there.

* I've been seeing mediums since I was 15. When my brother Ollie died, my belief in the after life kept me going. Because he'd comitted suicide, I felt guilty that I hadn't been there to stop him. When we were recording 'West End Girls' I couldn't see the point in going on. I went in to a room in the studio and told Ollie how unhappy I was that he'd died. He told me that this was how it was going to be. That's where the lyrics for 'It's Alright' came from.

* I remember crying as Tracey held Ocean. Not floods of tears, just a really corny tear in the corner of my eye. It was a mixture of pride and a feeling of 'Oh well, that's it. Grab your bag dear, we're going home.'

* Marriage is of the heart, not of the contract.

* Do not follow us and we will not lead you. We give U our songs, we give U our love. Let us walk 2gether.

* My motto for the moment, looking forward, is: 'There's enough for everyone's need, but not enough for everyone's greed.'

* No man can change the world alone, but mankind can change the universe.

* I always sound so meaningful, when I'm not really! I'm a complete arsehole - ha ha ha!!!

John Hendy
* I was roofing at the time and Anthony used to come round and tell me he was doing his music. He goes "D'you wanna help me do it?" I said "Yeah, alright." We were in this really two-bob studio down in Blackhorse Road. Bark studios it was called, as it goes. Bit poxy, it was, but we got the idea for House Of Love in there.

* Making the video for Gold was very tiring, but good fun. The best part of it all for me was at the end of the day, when they let us loose on the set. We sort of demolished the place, really.

* The thought of not being in East 17 frightens me in a way. But then, you ain't gonna die are you, it's nothing as bad as that.

* I'm very caring. I like listening to other people's problems - well, I don't like listening to them but I do listen, and help them get through things. I'm understanding.

* I never go to the gym or anything. I do about 200 sit ups and 100 press ups a day. I mean, I don't want to get really big or anything, I just want to stay fit.

* I believe in an afterlife. I've been given signs.

* Some people say they can live without money - but I reckon you need it. I'm doing it for the money, but I'm not doing it for myself, I'm doing it to help my family out, y'know what I mean? I'd like to buy my sister a house, all my family's struggling. I'd just like to help everybody out, my friends.

* It does bother me that other men will fancy my girlfriend who is a model. But I'm at the stage where I can't be bothered with it any more. I can't do nothing about it, though, and it's just a job.

* There's temptation to be unfaithful there all the time. When you're abroad there aren't as many little girls, there's more a mature market. I've been there, though. I've done it, before I was in music, well... you just end up lonely!

* I haven't been in many fights. I used to when I was little but I didn't mean to, I was just the unlucky one. I don't consider myself hard, though, because fighting ain't the way, you don't prove a thing. I try and get out of fights - but at the end of the day, if a geezer hits you, you've got to hit him back.

* When I was 13 or 14, I used to sell porn mags at school. I'd sell them for 50p and come home with about 20 quid. I was into them then, but not any more.

* I like Wonderbras and G-strings. I wouldn't wear a G-string, though, I just go for Calvins or nice shorts.

* Everyone should take vitamins every day. They're so important, especially in our job because you don't get to eat much proper food. It's all burgers and shit.

* Terry's daughter and my daughter, Justice, go to the same dance school. We went to see them in a show recently and they were dressed up like flowers. Justice had problems with her knickers though, and all through the show she was trying to pull them out of her bum!

* The only boy group that I think are really good - not putting any of them down because everyone needs respect and they all work hard - are Backstreet Boys. They've got wicked voices.

* We're not young any more, we're grown men now. Terry's got a kid, I've got a kid, Tony's got two kids and it does mature you - you look on life a lot differently. It doesn't really affect the band, but I think some of the fans are affected by it.

* I laid a bet with Tony and the rest of our mates that we'd all lose our virginity before we were 16 years old. I did it with this girl I'd been with for four months. It's still the longest time I've been with one girl.

Terry Coldwell
* New York is nothing like I expected. I thought there'd be hustlers with guns on every corner. It's pretty lightweight, really.

* We tell the truth to our fans. Like other pop bands make out that they don't smoke but they do 'cos we've seen them. That's just lying really. If people find out we smoke, that's fine, that's the truth.

* I have never used my fame to get into bed with someone. I'm not the type of person to do that. I suppose lots of people in my position would go into a shop, start reading through the magazines, shout 'Oh look, I'm in this one' and look to see if anyone's watching you. But I'm not like that.

* I don't want to say nothin' that will make me look like a fool, y'know. I've always been shy with new people and I just don't want people to think I'm an idiot...

* I want our fans to really enjoy the show, for my mum and dad to be really proud when they watch it, and for the critics that are going to write that it's a bad show to go away thinking, 'That was really good!'.

* Fame hasn't changed me, not really. It's made me wise, maturer, and now I look out and watch what's happening around me.

* As a boyfriend I think I'm loveable. I just have a laugh! It keep the girls happy when I make them laugh...

* With my kids, I'll be precious with them. If they go out and do something wrong then I'll give them a little smack. When you've grown up then you respect your parents.

* (on John Buckland) He's a really good geezer, as it goes. He's like a dad, really. Or mum. You can tell him all your problems, and he'll sort them out. You have a laugh with him, really. He's like someone our age.

* I saw a mate from school the other day, who I ain't seen for ages, and he was like. "Oh, what! Can't believe it!... You're a star now..." Freaks you, that does.

* West End Girls should end the speculation over whether we can actually do covers, you know, can we actually sing other people's melodies. There's no point saying, in the pop world, "get together" if we're not going to sing other people's songs. So we did it.

* (on Deep) It's definitely one of the best tracks on the album, and we even got a few friends in on the video! Love it... great.

* I help out with the house work. I feed the baby, wash her bottles, hoover up and sometimes when I've got the time I even dust.

* I believe in God, but how many can there be? There are so many different religions around the world - which one's right?

* You know when you're in love 'cos you think that person's perfect.

* Tony inspired me to write. The first song I wrote was about my girlfriend, and I just carried on.

* If everyone around me is on a good vibe, I am. And if everyone around you is on a bad vibe, you get one too.
