[SMASH HITS - AUS ISSUE June '99, Words: Colin Kennedy/Donna Armstrong]
Who is J gonna call when he's got a secret? Smash Hits of course! Take a look what we found when the famous 5ive-er unzipped his bag for Smash Hits only...
1. THE BAG
Ah, a sturdy bag this is! It goes all round the world with me, and I never unpack it. My dad gave it to me when I was 14. When he saw it recently he had a right go at me cose it was in such a state.
2. CANDLESTICK HOLDER
I robbed this from the backstage area at one of our shows. I've just bought one like it for my bedroom, except it's a big tall one!
3. WALKING BOOBS AND AN EYEBALL
A fan gave me the wind up breasts in Spain, and the eyeball made me laugh one day about months ago, so I put it in the bottom of my bag.
Me and Rob (5ive's tour manager) play cards when we're on planes. How else do we pass the time when we are travelling? As soon as Sean sits down, his eyes are closed - he must have a switch in his backside! The rest of us hammer each other with verbal abuse and crack each other round the head.
5. COLD REMEDY
We get colds all the time so we've all got some of this - it keeps the germs at bay.
Pit spray! You need some of that, cos you get a bit sweaty doing all these shows and everything.
7. BEARD TRIMMER
I use this about once every two or three days. It keeps my beard neat and sidies tidy!
The Gucci one was a present from a fan in Japan, but I bought the others myself. I'll usually wear one for about a week or maybe two weeks and then I'll go off it as soon as I smell another one.
9. MOBILE PHONE
The last person I phoned was my sister, to make sure she'd got into the venue all right. I don't use it that often - it's mainly for people phoning me.
10. CD DISCMAN AND ASSORTED DISCS
I listen to my discman all the time - it's definitely one of the things I have to have with me. I've got loads of hip-hop, a bit of soul and a bit of Iron Maiden (ancient metal head bangers).
11. PINT GLASSES
They're for, erm, fizzy pop juice. No, I got these for me and Sean from a venue last night, cos we had some beers.
The camera goes everywhere, to capture those special 5ive moments! I reckon the most embarrassing photo I've taken is Sean's face in the morning, when he first wakes up and he's got no eyes! It's such a hilarious picture.
