Abs Thought His Career Was Over
Yahoo, 10 July 2002
Thumb-sized singer Abs Breen has admitted that when Five split-up last year he felt as if his career had come to a sudden end.
"When the band broke up, I had nearly three months of doing nothing," he confessed. "I literally just watched daytime TV, you know, Antiques Roadshow and Changing Rooms. It was heavy - I didn't really know what I was going to do."
Luckily for Abs and, indeed, his army of loyal fans, a couple of producers called him up out of the blue and asked him if he fancied writing some tracks with them.
"That call was like the voice of an Angel," Abs told Sneak magazine. "I was, like, 'Yes!' I went and wrote with the producers for a week and we did about seven tracks. I came back and played them to the record company and they said 'We love them, go back and write the album.' I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't got that phonecall. Deep down, I kinda thought I might've been alright but I wasn't sure."
Now, almost a year on since Five's split, Abs says he's finally happy with the way in which his career is moving. "Five was stepping stone - it got my foot in the door and it taught me the ins and outs of the business. I won't say anything bad about the boys, but it's like the vehicle I was in was holding me back."
Abs' brilliant new single, What You Got, is released on August 12th and you can see a clip of it on his official website www.absessive.com.
